The coastal side is banking on Selebwa's rich experience on the touchline to power their ambitious charge towards promotion to the FKF Premier League in the 2025–2026 campaign.

Speaking exclusively to Citizen Digital, Nick Arunga, the club’s CEO, confirmed the signing and expressed confidence that Selebwa’s arrival marks the beginning of a turnaround for the team after a difficult 2024 - 2025 season.

“We had a tough season — finishing just above the relegation zone — but we’ve taken the lessons to heart,” said Arunga. “Now, we’re correcting our mistakes. Bringing in Coach Selebwa, one of the most respected names in Kenyan football, is a huge step forward.”

Selebwa, known for his tactical acumen, has previously coached Samwest Blackboots, Luanda Villa, and Congo Boyz, and his familiarity with the second tier league is expected to be a game-changer for Mombasa United.

“With his vast experience, we believe we can have a solid season and make a serious push for KPL promotion,” added Arunga.

Mombasa United are not just stopping at the technical bench. The club is currently reinforcing its squad with targeted signings from rival NSL clubs and planning intensive pre-season trials.

“We’ve already identified key players from other NSL teams and are finalizing their signings. Pre-season begins soon,” confirmed the CEO.

Team Manager Gilbert Wesonga announced open trials aimed at unearthing raw talent from Mombasa, the Coast region, and beyond.

“We’re throwing the doors open.  Friday and Saturday, we’re holding trials at the Refinery Grounds,” Wesonga revealed. “We’re inviting players who believe they have what it takes to compete at a high level.”

The full technical bench, including Selebwa and his assistant Andrew Kanuli, will be on-site to scout and select the very best.

“We want real competition in the squad. Every player will be given a chance to earn their place. The new season is all about hunger, discipline, and pushing beyond limits.”

Mombasa United endured a challenging 2024 season, finishing 16th in the NSL standings with 37 points.
