Newly promoted Kenyan Premier League (KPL) side Nairobi United have made a major statement of intent by securing the signature of Harambee Stars defender Manzur Okwaro Suleiman from KCB FC.

The move comes just hours before the CAF Confederation Cup squad submission deadline, with Okwaro undergoing medicals, penning his contract, and being officially registered to represent the Naibois in both domestic and the CAF Confederation Cup playoffs.

Okwaro, a product of St. Anthony’s Boys Kitale, was one of the standout players for the national team during the just-concluded African Nations Championship (CHAN), where his versatility shone as he slotted seamlessly between central defense and defensive midfield under Harambee Stars coach Benni McCarthy.

The highly rated defender, who previously turned out for the now-defunct Rainbow FC and had trial spells in France and Sweden, arrives at Nairobi United despite reported interest from clubs across Africa and Europe. His decision to sign for the ambitious debutants underscores the club’s growing reputation.

Nairobi United, nicknamed Naibois, will not only feature in the FKF Premier League for the first time but will also make their continental bow in the CAF Confederation Cup after stunning the football fraternity by winning last season’s FKF Cup.

In preparation for the demanding campaign ahead, United have been busy in the transfer market.

They have already added goalkeeper Bernard Jairo from Kariobangi Sharks, midfielder Shami Mwinyi from Posta Rangers, Chris Opondo from FC Talanta, and defender Daniel Wafula from Murang’a Seal.

Okwaro now joins this growing list of fresh talent, with his experience expected to shore up United’s backline.

As Nairobi United prepare for their Premier League debut and first taste of African football, the arrival of a proven, national team-tested defender signals their intent to not only compete but also leave a mark in both competitions.
