The measures aim to ease the notorious gridlock that often cripples roads around Nyayo National Stadium and Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, during major events.
Key road closures will be in effect on match days. Aerodrome Road will be closed from Madaraka Roundabout to Bunyala Roundabout.
One side of Langata Road between Madaraka and Lusaka roundabouts will also be closed, as will one side of Mombasa Road from Lusaka to Bunyala roundabouts.
Motorists from Mombasa Road heading to the CBD are advised to use Likoni–Enterprise Road at General Motors or the Southern Bypass at Ole Sereni.
Those from Langata Road should divert via Raila Odinga Road or Muhoho Road at Mbagathi Roundabout.
Fans heading to Kasarani are encouraged to use Ruaraka–Baba Dogo Road and Ngomongo Road to Ngomongo Roundabout.
Motorists from Thika Road can opt for the Eastern Bypass, Kiambu Road, or Limuru Road.
The plan comes as Kenya hosts a blockbuster opening weekend, with Harambee Stars debuting the tournament against Democratic Republic of Congo at Kasarani on Sunday frm 3PM, followed by Morocco’s clash with Angola at Nyayo from 6PM.
Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya had earlier assured fans of smooth movement during the tournament, promising “seamless” travel to and from the venues.
The traffic plan is designed not only for fans but also to ensure quick and unhindered movement for teams, officials, and emergency vehicles.
Traffic police will be stationed along key junctions to guide motorists and prevent bottlenecks.
With matches drawing thousands of fans, authorities are urging early travel to avoid last-minute congestion.
Organisers say the measures are crucial to delivering a smooth CHAN 2024 experience both on and off the pitch
