Kenya’s NCAA steeplechase champion Doris Lemngole will highlight the Lausanne Diamond League on Wednesday night, where she faces Ethiopia’s world U20 champion Sembo Almayew and 2022 world champion Norah Jeruto of Kazakhstan.

The 23-year-old is fresh from a historic call-up to Kenya’s Tokyo World Championships squad, where she will team up with Olympic bronze medalist Faith Cherotich and NCAA double champion Pamela Kosgei.

Lemngole sealed her place after finishing second at the national trials on July 22 in 9:24.69, behind Cherotich, who stopped the clock in 9:09.44.

She is now using the Lausanne meeting to sharpen up ahead of her maiden global show.

“I thank God; it means a lot to make this team go to Tokyo,” Lemngole said after the trials.

Her task in Lausanne will not be easy. Almayew has already collected two Diamond League podiums this season, third in Doha (9:09.27) and Paris (9:01.33), and was fifth at the Prefontaine Classic in 8:59.90. She also opened her season with a 14:41.75 over 5,000 m in Xiamen.

Lemngole, a student-athlete at the University of Alabama’s Crimson Tide, continues to balance education and elite competition. She lines up tonight at 21:29 EAT.

Wednesday’s Athletissima Diamond League meeting in Lausanne, Switzerland, is the third-to-last leg of the 2025 Diamond League season, with Brussels scheduled for August 22 before the two-day Zurich Final on August 27–28.
