The Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) has announced the suspension of Dennis Mwanja, the celebrated head coach of the Kenya Women's 7s and KCB 7s teams, for a period of two weeks.

The suspension follows a preliminary report from the Ministry of Sports, which details a safeguarding incident involving the coach.

The decision to suspend Mwanja was a recommendation from the State Department for Sports' Office of the Gender Protection and Implementation Secretariat.

Investigators have called for the suspension to ensure a fair and transparent process, one that protects the rights of both Mwanja and the alleged victim.

The KRU has made it clear that it is fully cooperating with the investigation and is allowing due process to take its course.

The KRU's Board has issued a strong statement, emphasizing its zero-tolerance policy for any form of inappropriate conduct, abuse of power, or violations that could undermine the safety, dignity, and rights of its players.

"The Board of the Kenya Rugby Union wants to make it clear that it will not shield any individual whose actions violate the trust and well-being of our players," the statement reads.

"We remain committed to upholding the highest standards of integrity, accountability, and safety within the Union."

While Mwanja's suspension is the focus, it's worth noting the coach's significant impact on the team this season.

Under his guidance, the KCB squad has enjoyed a successful run, reaching four finals in the National Sevens Circuit and winning the Driftwood and Christie's legs—a testament to his coaching abilities and the team's determination.

In the interim, the team will be led by Andrew Amonde, currently serving as the Head of Athletic Performance.

A legendary figure in Kenyan rugby, Amonde's extensive experience and leadership are expected to provide stability as the team navigates this challenging period.
