The former champions lead the best-of-five series 2-0 after back to back wins in Mombasa and as the final playoffs head into the decisive leg, one more victory against Zetech Sparks will be enough for KPA to reclaim their women’s glory.
They will be meeting for Game Three on Saturday at Nyayo Gymnasium from 4PM and possible game Four on Sunday at the same venue, same time.
Ocholla has expressed optimism that his side is ready to complete the job despite expecting a tough battle against Zetech Sparks who are out to turn the tables on home court.
“The team is already in Nairobi and we expect to win, nothing short,” Ocholla affirmed.
“We will work on the areas that we did not do well in Mombasa, while polishing up the areas that we did exceptionally well in those two games. We also expect the game to be tough. They will be playing at home in front of their fans, and they will bring the game to us. But we intend to take the game to them.”
Ocholla stressed that the team was determined not to let the opportunity slip away.
“We will not let that game slip through our fingers. We expect to finish off the rest, bag the title, and take it back to Mombasa,” he added.
KPA team edged closer to reclaiming the premier league title they lost last season to Equity Hawks after securing back-to-back wins in Mombasa over the weekend.
They won Game One narrowly 49-48 on Saturday before registering another hard fought victory of 54-49 on Sunday at the Makande Gymnasium to take a 2-0 lead in the best-of-five finals series.
Ocholla praised his side’s resilience and mental strength in the tightly contested encounters after the two victories.
“Being the finals, we expected very tight games, and that’s exactly what we got,” Ocholla said.
“We stuck to our game plan and played well. On Saturday, it was extremely close. The game went down to the wire but thank God we managed to come out with the win.”
With momentum on their side, KPA returned on Sunday determined to build on their advantage.
Ocholla explained that the team approached the second game with a different mentality, fully aware of the importance of the first victory.
“On Sunday, we came in focused, knowing how crucial Saturday’s win was. That gave us the push to fight even harder. With those two wins at home, we travelled to Nairobi needing just one more victory to seal the championship and we managed to get it done.”
With two wins already secured, KPA need just one more victory in Nairobi to clinch the championship and reaffirm their dominance in Kenyan women’s basketball.
The former champions now hold a commanding lead and will be eyeing a clean sweep when the series resumes in Nairobi, as they continue their bid to extend their dominance in Kenyan women’s basketball.
