Bungoma County’s Kimilili Boys’ High School handball team
says they are ready for the East Africa Regional Games, which kick off on
August 14 in Kakamega County.
Speaking to Citizen
Digital, head coach Fernwich Wanjala said last year’s third-place finish has
fuelled their determination to go for the title this time.
“Last year we came in third. Our goal now is to go all the way,” he said. “The maturity level in my team has improved because I have retained most of the players from last year’s edition.”
The squad has been competing in both the national league and
the Western Region League as part of their build-up, after securing
qualification for the regional games during the first term.
With the same core of players returning, Wanjala believes
their experience from last year—when they were making their debut—will be a big
advantage.
Kimilili have been drawn in Pool B alongside Uganda’s
Wampewo Nkakke and Gombe, Rwanda’s ADEGI, Tanzania’s Kilombero, Kenya’s
Manyatta, and a guest team from Ivory Coast. The coach is confident they can
outclass all their opponents.
The East Africa Regional Games run from August 14 to 24 in
Kakamega County.
