Led by captain Ivyne Barasa, the team controlled the match from start to finish, exploiting India’s defensive weaknesses to seal the win.
In the men’s category, Kenya went down fighting, losing 61–55 to a determined Indian side.
The third edition of the tournament has attracted 10 countries.
Men’s captain Peter Ayoo acknowledged the tough competition his side is facing having made their debut at the international stage.
“We are looking forward to having more games, more experience, more adventure and Tchoukball is going to grow.”
“The area we need to work on is the defence. We are slow in reaction. We did our best.”
“The competition is very stiff, this being our first tournament. Coming to more competitions we will improve.”
Kenya Tchoukball Federation president Kennedy Miruka added that the sport has the potential of improving the economy of the coastal regions through tourism.
“The beach Tchoukball is the future of Tchoukball in the world. It has potential for economic benefits especially in the coastal region of Kenya.”
“This year as a Federation we are very deliberate to introduce Tchoukball to the counties of Mombasa and Kilifi.”
“We specifically target these areas because we want beach Tchoukball to grow in those areas and attract tourists.”
The women face Cameroon while the men take on New Zealand on Saturday.
