Kenya’s U-20 women’s
volleyball team will be out to make a statement when the 2025 Africa U-20
Volleyball Championship serves off today in Yaoundé, Cameroon.
Six nations —
Kenya, Uganda, Egypt, Senegal, Cameroon, and Burundi — are set to battle for
continental glory and a spot at the 2025 FIVB U-21 World Championship.
Kenya begins her campaign Monday evening,
against Senegal, with subsequent group matches lined up against Cameroon
(August 5), Uganda (August 6), Egypt (August 7), and Burundi (August 8).
The top four teams from the group stage
will proceed to the semi-finals on August 10, before the tournament wraps up
with the final and third-place playoff on August 11.
The Kenyan delegation, led by veteran
coach Jackline Barasa, was officially flagged off at the Ministry of Sports
headquarters by Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya on Friday after completing a
two-week intensive residential camp at Nyayo Stadium.
The team, hungry to improve on their
fourth-place finish from the last edition, carries the hopes of a
volleyball-loving nation eager to see its young talents shine on the continental
stage.
The tournament, set to be held at the
Palaise Des Sports in Yaoundé,
adopts a round-robin format followed by knockout rounds. The stakes are high — not only for silverware but also for the
ticket to the global stage at the 2025 FIVB U-21 Championship.
