Cabinet secretary Sports, Salim Mvurya, confirmed that the bid has officially been submitted to the World Athletics with Kasarani Stadium as the proposed venue.
Kenya is now among other contenders; Ethiopia, The United Kingdom, Italy, Germany, South Korea, and India, who also submitted their bids for consideration.
“This bid is supported at the highest level of government, reflecting President William Ruto’s vision to position Kenya as a global sporting powerhouse. This is a national project, and our commitment is absolute," said.
Furthermore, he highlighted out Kenya's recent successful hosting of the CHAN 2024 and the ongoing infrastructure upgrades at Kasarani and Nyayo National Stadium prove Kenya's readiness and ability to stage continental competitions.
“The refurbishments of Kasarani and Nyayo stadium are not just about facilities, they are about creating a modern sports ecosystem. From world-class running tracks to upgraded training centres, Kenya is positioning itself to deliver venues that meet and even exceed global standards,” he remarked.
If Kenya succeeds, this will mark a historic moment and the global athletics community, cementing Nairobi as the first African city to host the World Championships.
