Kenya’s sporting sector ushered in a new era with the official opening of the inaugural National Sports Career Fair Expo and Symposium at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC), Nairobi on Wednesday.
The three-day event was opened by Sports Principal Secretary Elijah Mwangi, who represented Youth Affairs, Creative Economy, and Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya.
“This ground-breaking event redefines the future of our sporting landscape by unlocking massive opportunities across the entire sports ecosystem,” said PS Mwangi.
The inaugural expo aims to go beyond celebrating sporting glory by promoting careers in areas such as sports medicine, journalism, law, marketing, coaching, nutrition, stadia management, and physiotherapy.
Wednesday’s session focused on sports marketing across borders, highlighting how sport can serve as a tool for economic growth and international collaboration.
Attendees were also treated to vibrant performances from the Tong-Il Moo-Do team, Kenya Jump Rope Federation, and the Kenya Skating Team amongst others showcasing the diversity and energy within Kenya’s sports scene.
In addition, sector stakeholders hosted exhibitions where federations and organizations set up interactive booths to educate and connect with attendees.
Kenya Academy of Sports (KAS) Chair Thuo Chege stressed the importance of exploring partnerships to grow talent from the grassroots.
“There’s a lot of untapped talent across the country. We must build strong linkages that support and elevate these hidden gems,” said Chege.
Carrine Stratton, Acting Deputy Chief of Mission at the US Embassy, commended the initiative, pledging American support for programs such as those spearheaded by the Kenya Academy of Sports.
“These efforts have real potential to drive economic development and foster cultural exchange,” she noted.
The expo supports the goals of the Arts and Sports Pathway under the Competency-Based Education and Training (CBET) curriculum, aiming to create sustainable employment and position Kenya as a global sports powerhouse.
The Symposium is expected to conclude on August 8 2025.
