The bankers displayed sheer dominance and resilience, topping their pool unbeaten.
They kicked off their Prinsloo 7s campaign with a hard-fought 17-10 victory over a spirited Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA) side. The match set the tone for what would be a stellar day for the side.
In their second match, the Lions roared past Kisumu RFC with a commanding 48-0 win, showing clinical finishing and defensive discipline throughout the encounter.
They then wrapped up their group stage in style, dismantling Nondescripts RFC 52-0 to seal top spot in their pool and book a place in the quarterfinals.
The team’s impressive form sees them head into the knockout rounds as one of the top contenders for the Prinsloo 7s title, as part of the ongoing National Sevens Circuit.
Floyd Wabwire continued his excellent scoring form from Driftwood 7s with three tries against Nondies and added another in the win over Kisumu.
Festus Shiasi, who added three, added to KCB’s tally, ensuring the squad maintained offensive pressure in every match.
Menengai Oilers and Kenya Harlequins joined KCB as the only sides maintaining a 100 percent record in the group stage.
Oilers made a strong statement by defeating Strathmore Leos 17-7. Strathmore had come into the tournament in red-hot form after a strong showing in Driftwood, but the Oilers' defensive structure and pace out wide proved too much.
Meanwhile, Kabras bounced back from a shock loss to Mwamba with a commanding 25-5 win over MMUST in their final pool match, having earlier edged past Impala.
Kenya Harlequins, Nakuru RFC, Menengai Oilers, Strathmore Leos, KCB, Catholic Monks, Kabras and Impala are set to battle out for a slot in the main cup quarter finals.
