KCB Rugby asserted their dominance on the National Sevens Circuit after storming to the Kabeberi 7s title with a 20–10 victory over Daystar Falcons in the main cup final at the RFUEA Grounds on Sunday.
The bankers, who have now opened a nine-point gap at the top of the standings, produced a blistering first-half display to lead 20–0 before resisting a spirited second-half comeback from the youthful Falcons.
Elvis Olukusi gave KCB the perfect start with an early try before Vincent Onyala stretched the lead, profiting from a powerful carry by Bob Muhati.
Samuel Asati then crossed the whitewash to make it 15–0 before Elvis Olukusi pounced on a loose ball to secure a commanding halftime advantage.
Daystar Falcons fought back after the break with two tries but KCB’s defensive structure held firm to seal a 20–10 win and the Kabeberi crown.
In the semis, KCB edged rivals Kabras 21–17 in a thrilling contest. Asati and Michael Lukusi crossed for the bankers with Rayvon Ambale also on the scoreboard.
Kabras responded through Kevin Wekesa and Brian Mutua but a late try from Floyd Wabwire, converted by Festus Shiasi, proved decisive.
Daystar booked their spot in the final after edging Strathmore Leos 12–10.
Speedster Patrick Odongo dotted down before Clinton Amakuwachi added a second try.
Strathmore rallied through Victor Mola late on but Arnold Mwita’s conversion drifted wide, denying the Leos extra time.
Kabras defeated Strathmore Leos 29–12 to settle for bronze.
Brian Mutua and a double from Kevin Wekesa handed the sugar millers a 17–0 halftime lead, and despite Strathmore’s fightback through Samule Wafula and Victor Mola, Kabras sealed the win with a late Mathias Osimbo try.
Menengai Oilers beat Catholic Monks 17–12 to claim fifth place while Impala hammered Homeboyz 29–0 in the ninth place final.
Nakuru defeated Embu RFC 27–5 to secure 13th place as Nondescripts lifted the Division Two crown after beating Zetech Oaks.
Mwamba ladies delighted the home crowd with a dramatic comeback in the women’s final, stunning Impala 17–12 in sudden death.
Impala led 12–0 at halftime, but Naomi Amugune turned heroine for Kulabu, chasing down a kick from inside her own 22 before slicing through Impala’s defence to score the golden try.
Victory takes KCB to 104 points, nine clear of Strathmore Leos.
The bankers now only need to reach the main cup semifinals at next weekend’s Dala 7s to clinch the overall National Sevens Circuit crown.
