Gor Mahia head coach, Charles Akonnor is
radiating confidence ahead of tonight's blockbuster pre-season clash against Simba SC in
Tanzania.
The titans are set to lock horns at a
sold-out Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam from 7:30pm EAT in a high-octane
exhibition match to celebrate 'Simba Day'.
The Ghanaian gaffer believes his squad is
primed for a tactical victory, emphasizing that their rigorous preparation will
be the key to unlocking the Tanzanian giants.
“We have had training session and a couple
of matches and we know there is progress from our boys but this around, this
will be our biggest match and it’s very important for us to present ourselves
well,” noted coach Akonnor.
“There have been a lot of information we
have given the boys and we believe they have to maintain it and process it in
the game of play,” he added.
His sentiments were echoed by team captain
Philemon Otieno, who acknowledged the quality of their opponent but remained
bullish about K’Ogalo’s chances.
“We prepared well… Gor Mahia is also a big
team with a huge following back in Kenya and Simba too is a big club. This is
the big day and the match will present a good platform for us players to show
case what we have,” stated Otieno.
This encounter reignites a fierce regional
rivalry, marking the first time the two giants have locked horns since 2018,
when K’Ogalo got the better of the Tanzanian side in a Super Cup contest.
With a fervent, full-capacity crowd expected, the match promises to be a compelling tactical battle and a true spectacle of East African football.
