Former Gor Mahia goalkeeper Caleb Omondi has signed a
two-year contract with Shabana FC. The shot-stopper expressed delight at
joining another Premier League side and vowed to give his all to help the
Kisii-based outfit secure their maiden league title.
“I have signed for Shabana FC and I am happy to stay in the
top-tier league. I will give my best to help them win their maiden league title,”
said Omondi.
He also paid tribute to Gor Mahia, crediting the record
champions for nurturing him from the youth ranks to the senior team.
“I will forever have Gor Mahia in my heart. They gave me the
platform and nurtured me from the youth team to the senior team. I am so
thankful to Gor Mahia.”
Omondi was among two goalkeepers dropped by Gor at the end
of last season, alongside Dolph Owino. Gor have since signed Bandari FC
goalkeeper and Harambee Stars number one, Bryne Omondi.
Shabana, who finished fifth last season with 52 points—13
behind champions Police FC—have been active in the transfer market. The club
has also acquired midfielder Byron Otieno from Kariobangi Sharks, central
defender Kevin Musamali from Bidco United, and Nairobi City Stars centre-back
Wycliffe Omondi.
Omondi says the reception at his new club has been warm and
he feels at home playing for another community-based team.
“I am very happy with the reception here. They are so
welcoming and I will do my best for the Gusii side. Having played for a
community club, I still feel at home here.”
The 2025/26 season is scheduled to kick off on September 20,
after the conclusion of the CHAN tournament jointly hosted by Kenya, Uganda,
and Tanzania under the Pamoja bid.
Shabana have also parted ways with several players due to
expired contracts or performance-related reasons, including Maneno Zuberi,
Dennis Ongeri, Rodgers Aloro, Eugene Mukangula, Peter Ogechi, Mustapha Oduor,
Brian Magare, and Enock Agwanda.
