Posta Rangers head coach Sammy “Pamzo” Omollo has hailed his team’s mental transformation after they launched their 2025/26 FKF Premier League campaign with a spirited 2–1 comeback victory over Mathare United at the Kasarani Annex on Monday evening.

The Mailmen, who narrowly escaped relegation last season after edging NSL side Naivas FC in a tense playoff, showed a resilience rarely seen in their 2024/25 run. Mathare United—popularly known as the Slum Boys—struck first when Ellie Asieche converted a penalty on the stroke of halftime.

Rather than crumbling after the break, Posta Rangers regrouped. Their persistence paid off in the 73rd minute when Faustine Ojiambo pounced on a loose ball to level the score. Substitute Trevor Omondi, making his Kenya Premier League debut, sealed the win with an 85th-minute strike, sending the home fans into celebration.

Speaking after the match, Omollo underlined the significance of the result. He said the victory was “very important” because it set the tone for the season and highlighted the fighting spirit his players displayed.

“At one moment we were down, but we kept fighting to equalise,” he noted, adding that last season his squad often lost focus once they conceded.

Pamzo praised his side’s attacking intent, pointing out that Brian Yakhama and Maxwell Odada both had chances to extend the lead.

“I’m happy we are creating opportunities,” he said, stressing how difficult it is to generate scoring chances in the FKF Premier League.

The coach singled out Omondi for his individual brilliance, saying the young substitute’s first outing in top-flight football “really changed the game” and showed signs of a bright future.

Posta Rangers now shift their attention to a Saturday clash with Tusker FC at the Machakos Stadium, who will be eager to bounce back from a 2–0 loss to KCB in their own season opener.

With a morale-boosting victory and a sharper mentality, Omollo believes his squad is ready to challenge higher up the table.

“These are the things that will help our team,” he said, “and I’m looking forward to working with them to make us even better.”
