Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Hussein Mohammed says President William Ruto’s motivation has been a key factor in Harambee Stars’ remarkable run at the African Nations Championship (CHAN).
The players have already reaped big rewards, each pocketing
KSh 5 million in winning bonuses. This follows President Ruto’s pledge of KSh 1
million per player for every victory, which he doubled to KSh 2.5 million each
after Stars’ crucial win over Zambia on Sunday. Hussein praised the President’s
gesture, noting its impact on team morale.
“That has really pushed the players to give their all. They
are very motivated and willing to go all the way to the final and win the
tournament. I can say it has really been fun,” said Hussein.
He also urged fans to strictly follow CAF regulations by
purchasing tickets online, stressing that this is the only way to avoid further
sanctions from the continental body.
“It is very important for fans to acquire tickets through
the right channels. Many have fallen victim to fraud, which has caused
confusion at the entrances. I appeal to them to follow the rules because there
is a huge demand for tickets,” Hussein added.
With the large turnout of fans, FKF has now called on the
private sector to step in and support the game, pledging transparency and
accountability in managing any funds received.
“We urge them to come in large numbers and support the
federation in the various projects we are running. We have a vision of taking
the game to the next level. So far, they have seen what we are doing with CHAN,
and I want to assure them of transparency and accountability,” stated the FKF
president.
