Bandari FC head coach Ken Odhiambo is confident his side is fully prepared to bounce back to winning ways as they host Shabana FC Sunday afternoon in a highly anticipated Kenya Premier League (KPL) clash at Mbaraki Stadium in Mombasa.
Despite
being held to a goalless draw by Kariobangi Sharks in their season opener,
Odhiambo believes his squad has learned from that performance and is now ready
to deliver a strong response on home turf.
“We
were just unlucky in our opening match,” said the tactician. “But we’ve learned
our lessons and are ready to rectify things against Shabana. At Mbaraki, our
only target is maximum points — and we must start with the Shabana match, though
we know it won't be easy.”
Bandari,
however, face injury setbacks, with key players Dennis Ng’ang’a, Swaleh Pamba,
and striker Beja Nyamawi all nursing knocks. Ng’ang’a sustained an injury
during a friendly against Tanzanian giants Yanga FC, while Pamba is only 50%
fit. Meanwhile, Beja is struggling with a swollen knee.
“I’m hopeful that by Friday, after
assessments, they might be available for selection,”Odhiambo said
Coach
Ken has also issued a rallying call to Bandari fans, urging them to turn up in
large numbers to support the team this weekend. He emphasized the vital role
fans play in motivating the squad.
“We
must use our match against Yanga as an example of what fans can do during a
game,” he explained. “Fans are the 12th player — they play a key role in any
successful team. We humbly invite them to come and push us on Sunday against
Shabana.”
The
match is set to kick off at 3:00 PM at Mbaraki Stadium as Bandari eye for their
first win of the season.
