Kenya Cup Most Valuable Player Terry Tata headlines the Under 20 national volleyball team squad that will do duty in the Under 20 African Women’s Championships in Yaoundé, Cameroon.

Other players named on Wednesday are Eddah Jepkemei, Milka Akinyi, Mary Nanjala, Daisy Chepkirui, Benta Oluoch, Sharon Akinyi, Patricia Chemutai, Sheila Wabwile, Esabella Nafula and Sharon Jepkosgei.

Head coach Jackline Barasa will hope the fast-rising outside hitter will sustain her spark during the August 3-12 event after the 19-year-old guided KCB to win the Kenya Cup first edition earlier this month.

Tata burst onto the volleyball scene in 2023 when she helped KCB win the Kenya Volleyball Federation National Women’s League while she was in Form Three at Kwanthanze Secondary School.

The Under 20 team will jet out of the country this Saturday at 9am aboard Ethiopian Airline through to Togo (Lome) then Yaoundé.

KVF second vice president and U-20 Team Manager Kenneth Tonui said the players are in high spirits ahead of the championship.

“The team has been training at Nyayo National stadium for a while now and they are good to go. We are looking forward to a better result. NOC-K and the Ministry of Sports have been supportive, and we remain indebted to them. The team will jet back to the country on August 12,” said Tonui.

Other officials are Luka Kariuki who will deputise Jackline Barasa, Bala Conceptor to serve as the team’s Physiotherapist while KVF Secretary General Ismail Chege will be the head of the delegation.
