Everton man Tyler Onyango speaks on his affection for Kenya and prospects of featuring for Harambee Stars

A promising new talent could soon don the Harambee Stars jersey. England-based midfielder Tyler Onyango, who holds dual nationality through his Kenyan father and English mother, has expressed a strong desire to represent Kenya at the international level.

Speaking in an interview on  Sporty Monday programme on Citizen TV, Tyler, now on loan at Stockport County said he is inspired by African football and is looking forward to being part of Kenya’s national team in the near future.

“I love African football. There are so many great African players in the Premier League, and I want to be one of them — playing for Kenya, making a name, and making the fans proud,” the 22-year-old said in an interview with ‘Added Time Podcast’, by British journalist Aln Myers, which aired on Citizen TV.

Tyler, who came through the youth ranks at Everton FC who is now on loan at Stock Port County and has also featured in their senior squad, praised the passion of Kenyan fans and said he would be honoured to give them something to cheer about.

“Kenyans are amazing supporters of their national teams. I would love to be part of that journey and give them joy through football,” he added.

He also spoke highly of Benni McCarthy, the former South African striker, who also previously coached first team of Manchester United and now Harambee stars coach. “Benni is a coach I admire. His experience is top-level, and it would be a dream to play under someone like him,” Tyler said.

Veteran British journalist Alan Myers, who has followed Tyler’s career since his youth days at Everton, also hailed him as a quality midfielder who now tries at central defender and also right back. “I’ve seen Tyler play since he was eight — he has incredible vision, control, and work ethic,” Myers said.

With the Harambee Stars rebuilding and searching for fresh talents, Tyler Onyango could be a valuable addition to Kenya’s midfield — and possibly a future fan favourite.
