St Antony Kitale hockey head coach Kevin Lugalia has praised his
team’s resilience and maturity witnessed during the just-concluded East Africa
School games in Kakamega County.
St. Antony finished second behind Kakungulu Memorial in the round robin format, and the head coach says the project is heading
in the right direction.
“They really gave their best. Our aim was to win the trophy but
unfortunately it did not happen but the boy showed maturity and I believe as a
team are heading in the right direction,” said Lugalia
Having beaten rivals Musingu High School 2-1 in the East Africa
games after losing to them in the national finals Lugalia said their aim is to
reclaim the national title they have in the last two years to their rivals
and believe the fact that they are keeping most players in the team for next
season they have what it takes to win.
“Our aim is to reclaim the national title and go all the way to
conquer East Africa we will lose some players who will clear their secondary
school education but I believe have very good players remaining with us,” added
Lugalia.
With the Ugandan team being allowed to field forms five and six
in the competition, the veteran tactician says that has played a vital role in
them winning the title this year because most of their players play in the
national team and top league teams.
“They have an advantage because players stick together for long
but that should not worry us because I believe in previous occasion Kenyan team
have worn the East Africa title so all we need to do is prepare well and take
our game A to them during the competitions,” stated the head coach.
