Speaking to Citizen Digital, he says he wants his forward line to be more clinical when they meet Posta Rangers on Saturday at Dandora Stadium in a match that will kick-off at 1:00pm.
Okere admitted that his charges created a number of goal-scoring opportunities but failed to capitalise on them, adding that had they been sharper, the result would have been different.
"We created so many goal-scoring opportunities but we did not capitalise on them. It’s something we have worked on in training and I want to see the boys implementing it in our next match."
"It was a match we had planned so well and it’s unfortunate we conceded two goals and ended up losing that match."
"It was a tricky encounter playing against a strong team, but it was our first match and I believe we could have done better had we been more clinical in front of goal," Okere stated.
The former Vihiga Queens coach, admitted that they need to win their next match so as not to lag behind at the onset of the season.
"There's pressure already after losing the first match, so we need to adapt very fast in order to catch up with the rest of the pack. We can’t afford to be losing points at this time of the season," he underscored.
Tusker lost 2-0 to KCB courtesy of goals from former Gor Mahia forward Boniface Omondi where the Brewers had an opportunity to reduce the deficit when they were awarded a penalty early in the second half, but striker Eric Kapaito shot the ball over the bar.
The former Tusker Youth coach defended the striker after the match as well as his new signings who featured in the season opener.
"We all know Kapaito's capabilities. He knows how to close out matches and he knows his duty is to score goals. We have just come back from preseason in Kisumu and in three friendly matches he scored two goals. I can say he just had a bad day in the office."
"They are good players and I believe they need to adapt very quickly to our playing style and team philosophy. They did well against KCB but I still believe they can improve and do better because for you to get consistent wins you need to have cohesion in the team," stated Okere.
After Rangers' match, Okere’s charges’ next assignment will be another away duel against Mathare United, who also lost their season opener on Monday 2-1 to Posta Rangers.
