Musingu High School hockey coach Mike Malungu says he is not
worried about key players from his team who will be completing their high
school education, as he has enough backup for that.
Speaking to Citizen Digital, Malungu said five key players from
his team will be leaving, and he believes that their backup plan will work as
they intend to defend their national title next year.
“We will be having five key players who will be clearing
their high school education, but we are not worried at all because we have
their backup who understands our tactics, so we are still going to be
competitive,” said Malungu
Musungu competed in the East Africa School game hosted in
Kakamega County. They lost the first two matches in the round-robin formation,
which Malungu says reduced their chances of winning the competition.
“After we lost our first two games, that was a big blow because
it reduced the chances of us winning the title, but we have learned our lesson
and we are willing to move on,” added Malungu
Despite missing out on the regional title this year, the veteran
was impressed with the team's maturity and promised a stronger comeback next
year.
“We are still going to be competitive next year; that one I can
assure you, so let our opponent know that we will come up with a good team that
will still fight for titles,” the coach stated.
