Chema Volleyball Club from Juja has strengthened their squad as they set to make their third international outing, in preparations to participate in the 26th Julius Nyerere Memorial Volleyball Tournament in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania kicking off in Mid-October.
Speaking ahead of the tournament, the club’s head coach,
Jeremiah Mukopi, expressed confidence in the team’s progress, noting that the
international exposure will provide a much-needed platform for his players to
shape up before the Kenyan league season kicks off.
As part of their pre-season recruitment drive, the club
successfully signed a new attacker from Uganda’s KCCA Volleyball Club, to
fortify their left attacking position. According to the coach, this move was
strategic in strengthening the team’s depth and creating play that is more
compact.
“I wanted to beef up the left attacking position; so that we
can at least be compact and to steam up the team through that position,"
he explained.
The coach further confirmed that 14 players have been
shortlisted to represent Chema Volleyball Club in Dar es Salaam. He emphasized
that participating in the tournament is not only a chance to test the team’s
performance against strong regional opponents but also an opportunity for the
players to build cohesion and sharpen their tactical awareness.
“This will be our
third international trip in the pre-season. It gives my players a good platform
and see how we are going to play when the league starts," he added.
The Julius Nyerere Memorial Tournament is one of East
Africa’s most competitive volleyball events, attracting top clubs from across
the region.
For Chema Volleyball Club, this participation symbolizes
growth, ambition, and determination to raise their profile in regional
volleyball as they prepare for the future league.
