The match, set for the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, is a must-win for Kenya to secure top spot in the group and book a home quarterfinal tie against the runners-up in Group B.
Kenya currently leads Group A with seven points from two victories over Morocco and DR Congo, plus a draw against Angola.
Angola’s elimination was confirmed on Thursday after a 2-0 defeat to DR Congo, who remain in contention for qualification.
Kibwage, who signed for record Kenyan Premier League champions Gor Mahia earlier this week, said the team has greatly benefited from the short break they were granted before the Zambia clash.
“We needed that rest to reconnect with our families and reflect on the memories of this great run. It has been a successful campaign so far, but we know the job is not yet done,” he stated.
The 27-year-old defender however acknowledged that Zambia will be a formidable opponent, despite losing their previous three CHAN 2024 matches.
“We expect Zambia to bring their best, but we are taking it one game at a time. The level of camp training has been impressive, and we are confident of getting a favourable result,” he said.
Kibwage also paid tribute to the fans, describing them as the team’s “12th man” throughout the tournament. He urged supporters to fill the stands on Sunday and cheer the team on responsibly.
“The fans have been amazing. Their energy pushes us to give our all. We want them to turn up in big numbers for this final group game,” he added.
A win on Sunday would not only seal Kenya’s place at the top of Group A but also give Harambee Stars a morale boost as they head into the knockout stage, aiming to continue their historic CHAN 2024 run on home soil.
