National Super League side Compel FC head coach George
Mutimba has expressed joy at having been the first coach of Harambee Stars ace
Manzur Suleiman Okwaro, who is currently representing Kenya in the 2024 African
Nations Championship (CHAN).
Mutimba signed Manzur when he was 13 years old while he was a student at St. Paul Lubinu and St. Mukasa secondary schools,
before later joining St. Anthony Kitale.
I'm a proud coach because one of my
own is scaling the heights of football in this country.
“Manzur started with us when he was just 13; he was part of
Compel FC in 2019 and now representing the country," said an elated Mutimba.
The tactician prides himself for advising
Suleiman to hold on during a period when the player was on the verge of
quitting football.
"There was a time he wanted to quit football
after adding weight moments after leaving Kariobangi Youth.
“I advised against the decision and he listened, that's why
he is currently at the top of his game," Mutimba noted.
Mutimba has urged parents to support and
encourage their talented children, emphasizing that in today's world, talent
can be a great source of income.
Manzur Suleiman Okwaro, who now plays for KCB in
the Premier League, played a starring role in Kenya’s famous 1-0 win over DR
Congo at Kasarani Stadium on Sunday in their CHAN opener.
