The turmoil began when Bandari FC ended its partnership with Fortune Ladies, the club at the heart of Bandari Queens’ formation. The fallout led to confusion within the management ranks and cast a shadow over the team’s league status.
But in a bold move to stabilize the situation, Bandari FC CEO Tony Kibwana has stepped in to reaffirm the club’s commitment to the women’s team — at least for now.
“We are still in the process of formalising Bandari Queens, but for now, we will maintain the agreement with Fortune to avoid any disruptions,” Kibwana told Citizen Digital.
“A new technical bench will lead the team into the new season,” he added.
The decision couldn’t have come at a better time. With the new NSL season approaching, a letter was sent to all players instructing them to report back to training camp on Monday. Kibwana added with confidence:
“We are now ready to go. We’ve communicated with our players, and God willing, we’ll be fully back on track by Tuesday.”
The delay in confirming the club’s future didn’t come without a cost. Several key players exited the club, seeking more stable opportunities elsewhere before the transfer window slammed shut.
Notable departures include:
Ann Brenda, who joined Women’s Premier League champions Police Bullets
Tacy Olembo and Cynthia Okwado, now with Kisped Queens
Valentine Khwaka, who signed with Mathare United Women
Mary Wali and Ashley Shilwatso, now at NSL champions Kayole Starlets
Still, the management remains unfazed.
“I know some left, but we’ll work with what we have and plan the way forward,” Kibwana said.
Bandari Queens will now look to regroup under new leadership. Taking over the reins is Jonathan Washe, formerly the assistant coach at MTG Kilifi. He’ll be assisted by Linda Seda, a former Kenya Beach Soccer international and current coach at Goodhope FC.
