In what is seen as a major boost to the Kenyan Premier League (KPL), Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has announced a significant increase in prize money for league champions—tripling the winners’ purse from Ksh5 million to KSh15 million.
For years, league winners have settled for a modest Ksh5 million. That changes this season after FKF president Hussein Mohamed revealed on Tuesday that the federation, together with their gaming partners, have injected Ksh20 million into the prize pool.
Under the new
structure, Champions will get Ksh15 million, First runners-up Ksh3 million, and
Second runners-up: Ksh2million
The federation
will contribute Ksh10 million into the kitty, with an equal amount coming from
the league’s title sponsor.
