American saxophonist and composer Kenny G received a locally assembled saxophone after performing at his sold-out concert at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) on Saturday night.

The gift was presented to him by East Africa Breweries Limited (EABL) CEO and MD Jane Karuku as a souvenir that sought to appreciate local artisans as well as demonstrate the bridge between the two crafts that are bound by the same pursuit of mastery and creative expression.

At the heart of the biggest craft market in Gikomba, Cosmas Mumo spent a week crafting and designing the wooden saxophone for the legendary king of jazz. The saxophone was carved out of a mvule tree –an indigenous tree that produces high-value wood while the box was made of mahogany wood.

“When I was asked to create this piece, it was a special moment for me and my craft as an avid listener of Kenny G’s jazz melodies. Every cut and curve was guided by a meticulous dedication and appreciation for the artist it was meant for. For me, this was an honor—to create something unique that speaks to the heart of art and craft,” he said.

The Grammy Award-winning saxophonist delivered an enthralling performance to a fully packed auditorium with his melodies reverberating with all attendees.

Speaking on the sidelines of the event, Ceo Jane Karuku said the event was “well-coordinated and fantastic.”

“The performance by Kenny G was soulful, and it resonates with our values as a brand. Tusker Malt is built on the values of mastery and authenticity, and few artists embody that spirit like Kenny G… and that is why presenting him with a locally crafted saxophone was our way of celebrating not only his artistry but also the incredible talent and creativity by our people,” she said.

Tusker Malt’s support for the concert underscores the brand’s commitment to championing cultural and elevated experiences for people. By partnering in this historic event, the brand reinforced its place as a curator of moments where excellence and enjoyment meet.

By the time he struck his final chord, social media feeds were abuzz with clips of his performance under the layered stage lights at the KICC Tsavo ballroom.

This was the first time Kenny G was performing in Kenya.

He sold his CDs at the event and signed autographs for his fans and attendees.
