Kenya’s
middle-distance queen Faith Kipyegon is ready to take on a new
challenge—long-distance races, after yet another remarkable outing at the World
Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan.
Kipyegon,
who won her fourth 1,500m world title in Tokyo, also claimed silver in the
5000m, finishing just behind her close friend and compatriot Beatrice Chebet,
who bagged double gold in the 5000m and 10,000m races.
Speaking
after her race, Kipyegon expressed satisfaction with her performance, saying:
“This is my first 5,000m of the season, and
I’m happy to win silver. Beating Chebet was not going to be easy—she’s in top
form.”
Having
dominated the 1,500m for nearly a decade, Kipyegon now says she wants to push
herself beyond her comfort zone by embracing longer distances in future
competitions.
“I don’t want to remain in the same place. I
will still run 1500m, but I’m also preparing for longer races. It’s time to
challenge myself.”
Kipyegon
is already setting her sights on women-only road races, particularly the
Athlows Series, where she hopes to inspire more young girls to venture into
distance running.
Her
transition signals a new phase in her decorated career—one marked not only by
medals but also by mentorship and trailblazing for women in athletics.
With her
incredible track record and newfound hunger, Faith Kipyegon is proving that
greatness evolves—and she’s far from done.
