Speaking after observing the national team’s recent performances, Akhulia said he has drawn key lessons from Benni’s fearless style of switching lineups without compromising results.
“As a local coach, I think I have learnt that we should not be afraid of making changes because in each and every match, Benni has not used the same lineup.
You can see he changes two or three players, but the team still performs. So, I think he believes in all his players and he trusts they will do the job for him, and the trust makes the players perform better.” Said Akhulia.
The Bidco boss praised Benni’s man-management skills, noting that the South African tactician has managed to instil belief and hunger across the squad.
He pointed out that several Kenyan players have particularly stood out, among them midfielder Manzur Suleiman Okwaro.
“Looking at how Manzur is playing and the position that he is being used by coach Benni makes me prouder of him,” Akhulia said, adding that the player’s adaptability reflects the progress Kenyan talent is making under strong guidance.
Akhulia also highlighted the different factors contributing to the Harambee Stars’ improved displays, ranging from fan support to financial motivation.
“I think first is home advantage, which has not happened for years, the support the Kenyans are giving the boys, and of course, the money rewards also play a part,” he explained.
“But all in all, I believe they are getting good training from coach Benni because he has done a tremendous job with the team.”
His comments come at a time when local coaches are under increasing pressure to match international standards.
By embracing youthful squad depth and tactical flexibility, Akhulia believes Kenyan coaches can unlock more consistency and better prepare their teams for both domestic and continental success.
