The prolific centre forward joins the club on a two-year contract after an impressive 2024/25 season, where he emerged as the NSL’s top scorer with 22 goals and nine assists.
Mugane’s arrival marks a key addition to the Leopards’ attacking options as the club looks to rebuild following a disappointing campaign in the FKF Premier League.
Known for his aerial dominance, clinical finishing, and versatility, Mugane has consistently demonstrated his capabilities in the lower divisions.
Before his NSL exploits, he was the top scorer in the 2018/19 Division Two season, where he netted 18 goals for the same Fortune Sacco side.
His performances have earned him a reputation as one of the most dangerous forwards outside the top tier, and his move to AFC Leopards is widely seen as a major step in his career.
In addition to his footballing talent, Mugane is also a serviceman attached to the GSU Nairobi unit.
He began his football journey with Kirinyaga Stars before making his mark at Fortune Sacco, where he became a central figure in their rise over recent seasons.
His consistency and leadership in the final third were instrumental to Fortune Sacco's success, and he now brings that experience and hunger for goals to the Den.
His arrival comes at a crucial time for the club, which struggled in front of goal during the 2024/25 season, finishing sixth on the log with 51 points.
A lack of a consistent goal scorer was evident throughout the campaign, and Mugane is expected to fill that void as the new season approaches.
The club is also reported to be active in the transfer market, with several new faces joining the squad to strengthen key areas.
Among those linked with or already joining AFC Leopards are players from both local and international clubs, including promising talents promoted from the youth team.
This broader recruitment strategy is aimed at injecting fresh energy and competition into the squad as the club sets its sights on returning to the top of Kenyan football.
With Mugane now in the ranks and more reinforcements on the way, optimism is growing around the Leopards’ camp.
The club's faithful supporters will be hoping that the addition of a proven goal scorer like Mugane will be the catalyst for a more competitive and successful season ahead.
Ingwe have also confirmed the departure of goalkeeper Levis Opiyo following the expiry of his contract.
