Githunguri Member of Parliament Gathoni Wamuchomba has accused
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen of failing to deliver justice for
42 people, most of whom were women, whose bodies were discovered at the Kware
dumpsite in July last year.
Speaking after her suspension from Parliament for 20 days,
Wamuchomba alleged that the House was sidelining women’s issues, saying her
questions on the Kware killings were blocked.
She faulted the government for downplaying femicide, called
for Interior CS Murkomen’s resignation, and decried the lack of progress in
identifying the victims or arresting the main suspect, who escaped police
custody nearly a year ago.
“CS Murkomen's failure to aggressively pursue the perpetrators
of the Kware femicide cases not only demonstrates contempt for the victims but
also reinforces the pattern that, under the current government's watch,
perpetrators of femicide can kill women and traumatize families with
impunity," Wamuchomba stated.
"Speaker (Moses) Wetangula's decision to act against me,
rather than holding CS Murkomen accountable for failing to fulfill his
constitutional duty to safeguard internal security, further perpetuates this
pattern of contempt."
Her sentiments were echoed by former Nominated Senator Gloria
Orwoba.
“When he comes to say it is a hoax, I want to remind him,
Waziri Murkomen, your predecessor Kindiki worked with me personally to deal
with matters of femicide because he acknowledged these issues, such as sexual
harassment," Orwoba noted.
"So, he is even contradicting his office. And I
personally don't believe, let me say this with all due respect, that Waziri
Murkomen has the capacity to hold that office."
Collins Jumaisi, the main suspect in the Kware murders, was
arrested in July last year after police said he admitted to killing 42 women,
including his wife, and dumping their bodies in the area from 2022 to 2024.
In August, police, however, said he escaped custody at the
Gigiri Police Station in Nairobi alongside 12 others.
Following the escape, five police officers were arraigned over
accusations of helping the suspects escape.
