Police in Nyamira have launched a manhunt for a 22-year-old
man who allegedly confessed to killing his girlfriend and burying her body in a
shallow grave.
The man, identified as Gideon Makori, is said to have been
in a relationship with Faith Kemunto, who was reported missing in July.
Citizen Digital visited the area where panic and fear gripped residents of Maosi village after officers from the homicide squad cordoned off a section of a road within the village, where the remains of 20-year-old Faith Kemunto lay.
Kemunto is said to have left home in June with her phone
while nibbling a mango. A one-month search yielded fruit on Monday after a
strange message came to her sister-in-law’s phone, sent by Kemunto’s alleged
boyfriend, identified as Gideon Makori.
“Ilikuwa imendikwa ati huyu Fay tulimzika huko juu Maosi
mahali wanatoa mchanga karibu na tangi. Sasa nikawacha tu wakaenda,” said Grace
Nyaitondi, the mother of the deceased.
The two were set to join the university this week, and police are
now searching for the 22-year-old Makori.
“Hatujakuwa na
matatizo vile alikuwa anatoka shule anakaa nyumbani. Sasa kile tu naomba kwa
serikali, inisaidie ama itusaidie kutatua hiyo matatizo yote,” father to
deceased Charles Obino said.
A resident, Edna Kemunto, added, “Vijana wa shule wengi
wamekufa kwa hii mwezi tu wa university... Mwingine wa Form 2 alichomwa hapa chini Gakii. Jameni vijana wetu wameisha, tunaelekea
wapi?”
Police are now seeking court orders to exhume the body while
searching for the prime suspect.
