In a statement dated August 12, UASU Secretary General Constatine Opiyo said that all Union members at Moi University staff shall withdraw their labour until the Return-To-Work Formula is implemented.
The Union demands that salaries for June and July 2025 should be paid as per the negotiated 2021-2025 Collective Bargaining Agreement rates.
It also wants the Return-To-Work Formula signed between the Union and the University Council on November 30, 2024 to be honored.
Additionally, the Union wants the clauses on review and promotion of staff and retirement age in the negotiated 2021-2025 National Collective Bargaining Agreement to be fully honored as well as upholding worker's fundamental rights and freedoms under Article 41 and Chapter 4 of the Constitution.
According to the notice, the strike is set to commence on August 20, 2025.
Moi University has recently been under a management crisis which has resulted in loss of funds and strikes, leading to frustration among students and parents.
Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba in January inaugurated the new council for Moi University as he banks on the fresh team to restore the lost glory of the institution.
The CS said the government took the bold decision to fire the old council that had led to the poor management of Moi University.
Ogamba reiterated that the move will ensure order and normal learning in the university after long period of instability due to governance and leadership issues that had plunged the institution into despondency.
