A member of the Uasin Gishu County Assembly has threatened
to move to court to challenge the recruitment process of new staff by the
County Public Service Board, terming it unfair.
Kimani Wanjohi of Huruma ward says out of 300 positions recently
advertised, 298 have been given to members of one ethnic community.
“I oppose the county public service board’s recruitment. If 298
out of 300 jobs are going to members of one ethnic community, then we have no
business calling ourselves a city,” Wanjohi said in Eldoret, referencing the municipality’s
conferring with city status last year.
Wanjohi accused the current county leadership of
unfairness, saying, “The previous county government did not achieve balance, but
things were not this bad.”
On Tuesday, a group of persons living with disabilities (PLWDs)
in the county petitioned the county assembly over the same, noting that
they were not considered in the 5 percent requisite by law.
