Two residents of Oleserian Village, just a few kilometres from Kajiado town, are receiving treatment at Kajiado Referral Hospital after being attacked by a rogue hyena.

The victims sustained serious injuries while trying to protect their livestock from the wild animal. Witnesses said the hyena was later killed by villagers following a tense confrontation. The incident has left the community in shock and heightened fears over increasing wildlife incursions.

Residents say hyena sightings in the area have become more frequent in recent months, posing a growing threat to both human life and livestock.

“This is no longer just about livestock. These animals are now targeting people. We need urgent action,” said one concerned villager.

The community is calling on the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) and other relevant authorities to take immediate steps to control the rising hyena population. They are also demanding prompt compensation for the victims, noting that the government is responsible for addressing injuries and losses caused by wildlife under its protection.

Hospital officials confirmed the two victims are in stable condition. The community now awaits an official response from KWS on the incident and what measures will be taken to prevent future attacks.
