A suspect armed with an AK-47 rifle stormed a home in Kaapus, Turkana County, and demanded to take away a 16-year-old girl forcibly.

According to the National Police Service (NPS), the locals raised an alarm, making officers from Lorugum Police Station led by the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) to respond on time.

"The team successfully recovered an AK-47 firearm loaded with six rounds of ammunition and one spent cartridge," said the NPS.

The NPS further explained that the suspect managed to escape, and a manhunt is ongoing to arrest him.

Elsewhere, in Uasin Gishu County, a police officer attached to Moiben MP Phyllis Bartoo is in custody after losing his firearm, which was loaded with 15 rounds of ammunition.

Corporal Silas Kiptoo was out celebrating at a popular club in Eldoret along with two others.

Around 11 pm on Friday night, he noticed his firearm, a barretta pistol, was missing.

Authorities are currently conducting efforts to recover the weapon. The officer is being held at Sukunanga police station in Kesses, Uasin Gishu County, as investigations continue.
