In a Gazette Notice dated August 18, Senate Speaker Amason Kingi announced that the session, scheduled for 2:30 p.m. at the Senate Chamber in Parliament Buildings, Nairobi, will begin with Nabwire's official oath-taking.
She is set to join the House as a nominated Senator, replacing Gloria Orwoba. Orwoba was found guilty of making public statements that harmed the party's image and repeatedly failing to respond to disciplinary charges
UDA Secretary General Hassan Omar said in a press statement then that the party's National Executive Committee (NEC) unanimously approved the expulsion in response to the Disciplinary Committee's recommendations.
Senators will immediately turn their attention to Governor Mutai's impeachment motion, which follows the Kericho County Assembly's decision to remove him from office.
The Assembly’s Speaker formally communicated the decision to the Senate last week.
“The business to be transacted shall include the swearing-in of Consolata Nabwire, the hearing of charges against Hon. (Dr.) Eric Kipkoech Mutai, Governor of Kericho County, and the alteration of the Senate calendar,” Kingi stated.
