Wiper Patriotic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka has criticised
the government’s anti-corruption campaign, terming it ineffective.
Kalonzo says President William Ruto’s administration has been
plagued by scandal after scandal, turning the country into a fortress of
corruption.
He insists that only the opposition coalition can take
decisive steps to end graft that threatens to completely stall education and
health provision in the country.
“Scandal after scandal. Students are being sent home for lack
of fees because of delayed capitation. University students receive messages
that HELB has been disbursed, only to be told upon arrival that the funds were
not paid. What state of corruption is this?” Kalonzo posed.
He went on to highlight how corruption has crippled the health
sector, even as the government maintains it is committed to fighting graft.
“Already, Ksh.10 billion have been stolen through fake
hospitals under SHA, while legitimate facilities like missionary hospitals have
been denied payment, forcing them to close down. Is that fair?” He added.
The Wiper leader further linked corruption to the government’s
move to take over management of Karura Forest after the Friends of Karura
management team resisted alleged illegal plans to grab its land for a road
project.
“Karura was uninhabitable until Wangari Maathai fought to save
it. Agreements were made to preserve the forest, so why has the government
changed its mind? Why build a road through a forest?” Kalonzo posed.
The Wiper party says that through its coalition with other
opposition parties, President Ruto will be removed from office in 2027, and
individuals will be held accountable.
“We will be the only ones, when we take power, to prosecute
those in the current regime with crimes against humanity, because the current
rampant corruption is a violation of human rights,” stated Kalonzo.
