According to State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohamed, Japan's longstanding partnership with Kenya has grown to more than KSh600 billion, making Kenya the largest recipient of Japanese aid in Africa.
“The visit is expected to consolidate Kenya–Japan relations by expanding opportunities in trade, investment, and development cooperation,” the statement read.
The discussions will center on major infrastructure projects such as Mombasa Port's expansion, Mombasa Port Area Road Development, and the Dongo Kundu Special Economic Zone.
Nairobi’s urban transport system will also feature prominently.
Other areas of collaboration highlighted include agriculture, forestry, climate change, irrigation, and reforestation.
“Both countries will further explore expanding educational exchanges in science, technology, and innovation to develop skilled talent,” State House noted.
At the summit, President Ruto is expected to push for stronger African integration to unlock the continent’s economic potential.
“He will emphasise the African Continental Free Trade Area as a driver of inclusive growth, urge the removal of trade barriers, and seek stronger partnerships with Japan to boost investment in priority sectors,” the statement added.
On the sidelines, President Ruto will engage in bilateral talks with several leaders, including Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba.
He is also scheduled to be received at the Imperial Palace by Their Majesties Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako.
“His meeting with Prime Minister Ishiba will focus on deepening the Kenya–Japan partnership and exploring new avenues for trade, investment, and international cooperation,” Hussein Mohamed stated.
