The humanitarian organization’s Secretary General Idris Ahmed and Homa Bay Deputy Governor Joseph Oyugi Magwanga on Tuesday led other leaders in the ground breaking ceremony for the construction of the facilities at the HOMAWASCO compound within Homa Bay town.
Idris said that the move will ensure proper coordination between the Kenya Red Cross and the government agencies for smooth delivery of its mandate in response to disaster and rescue needs.
According to the Secretary General, the facility will also have a section for youth empowerment and engagement for creativity and skills development for wealth creation.
Magwanga said the facility is going to respond to emergencies such as rescuing and supporting residents who are affected by floods since parts of Hom Bay county are prone to floods during the rainy seasons.
Residents of Wang’chieng ward in Karachuonyo constituency and parts of Suba North, Suba South and Rangwe constituencies always face displacement by floods during the rainy season forcing them to vacate their homes for safety.
