The girl had gone missing on Tuesday after leaving her family home to buy sugar from a nearby shop.
According to her grandfather, James Thiong’o, she was preparing to make porridge for her mother, who is currently admitted at JM Kariuki Memorial Hospital after giving birth to twins.
“On that day, I gave her money to go to the shop for sugar before heading to the hospital to visit her mother. When I returned, her younger sister told me she had not come back,” Thiong’o told Inooro TV.
Jane Wanjiru, a local shopkeeper, said the girl bought several items, including rice worth KSh 60, two pens, and a local confectionery known as ngumu.
“She also asked for a packet of uji flour, which I didn’t have, so she left to look for it at another shop. That was the last time I saw her,” Wanjiru said.
Officers from Ol Kalou Police Station visited and documented the crime scene before transferring the body to a local funeral home.
Nyandarua County Police Commander Stella Cherono confirmed that detectives are pursuing key leads in the case.
“We have not made any arrests yet, but investigations are ongoing to ensure the perpetrator is brought to justice,” she said.
