The family of slain lawyer Mathew Kyalo Mbobu is demanding
justice for their beloved kin who was fatally shot Tuesday evening along Magadi
Road in Nairobi's Karen area.
The late Mbobu, who served as an advocate of the High Court
for 37 years, has been eulogised as the family's pillar of strength and wisdom.
Citizen TV visited his home in Maiyani village, Mukaa
Sub-County, Makueni County, where the late Mbobu's 86-year-old mother,
accompanied by her younger son, appeared frail, lonely and heartbroken.
“Tumepokea hii jambo na huzuni sana. Wakili ni mtu ambaye
anafanya kazi yake vizuri, na mtu wa kutumainiwa,” his brother James Maluki
said.
"Kyalo was the second son in a family of 12—a pillar of
strength and wisdom who stood for justice."
The bereaved family is demanding justice following the brutal
daylight execution of the late Mbobu.
Mbobu's brother, who is also a lawyer, says the cold-blooded
execution of his brother sends a chilling message to Kenya's legal
practitioners.
“We appeal to the government that the matter be thoroughly
investigated because we should have freedom of movement and in our professions,
we need to work without fear. Hao waliohusika watiwe mbaroni,” Maluki stated.
The late Mbobu was also a respected lawyer and lecturer at the
University of Nairobi and the Kenya School of Law.
The Nairobi-based lawyer was shot dead on
Tuesday evening in a drive-by attack on Magadi Road.
Police reports indicate the victim was gunned down by an
assailant on a motorcycle shortly after 7:30 p.m.
The lawyer was reportedly driving home when the attacker
pulled alongside his vehicle and opened fire before speeding away.
Following the murder, the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) will lead
a Purple Ribbon March on Friday, September 12, in protest against the
violence perpetrated against members of the legal profession
