Led by Wiper Patriotic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka, opposition leaders who attended a pastors’ ordination service in Machakos County cautioned clergy against being used to lead Kenyans astray, saying they are shaping a formidable team to unseat President Ruto in 2027.
The Opposition also warned the head of state against concerted efforts to dismantle the opposition.
The church is once again at the centre of a political storm, days after the head of state defended his three-year record at the Evangelical Alliance conference.
“Those bishops are given Prados. The Roman Catholics refused the gift. This is public money. Kenyans are beginning to ask where this large sum came from,” said Kalonzo Musyoka.
“How are you going to unite Kenyans? In one place you tell people to bring leaders from a certain area. These are people who are bought. Now will people be bought with that money?” said Muturi.
“Those bishops are given Prados and told to follow State House, to go and speak to Kalonzo to join me. Wow," Kalonzo added.
“We sat with Kalonzo and leaders from the Kamba, Kikuyu, Meru and Embu, and I was told that for the time being I am the family spokesman. So if you want to speak to Kalonzo, do not use brokers. Come and find me," former DP Rigathi Gachagua said.
The opposition chiefs expressed confidence they can defeat the president at the ballot in 2027, citing many unfulfilled promises in different regions.
“It is Kenya’s right to get development and bribing Kenyans is blackmailing them. Let us pray for leaders with integrity,” DAP-K party leader Eugene Wamalwa pointed out.
