The National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) has seized counterfeit alcoholic drinks worth an estimated Ksh.16 million in a high-stakes crackdown on illicit alcohol in Nyamira County

The raid, carried out in Nyaigwa Village within Nyamira Town, was a joint operation involving NACADA, the National Police Service, Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS), National Government Administrative Officers, and a specialized Administration Police unit.

Among the brands confiscated were Dallas, Smart Vodka, Trigger, and Space—all unlicensed beverages suspected to have been destined for distribution across the region. Officials described the haul as one of the largest in the county this year.

One suspect, identified as Isaac Mutai, was arrested at the site. Investigators say he is linked to a local businesswoman and may have been part of a wider supply network. He remains in custody as inquiries continue into the source and distribution chain of the counterfeit products.

NACADA chief executive Dr. Anthony Omerikwa said the raid was part of a Rapid Results Initiative ordered by Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen to combat illicit alcohol.

“This operation is a testament to our renewed commitment under the RRI to rid our communities of dangerous, counterfeit alcohol,” said Dr. Omerikwa. “Let this serve as a warning to all those engaging in this illegal trade—NACADA is not relenting. We are coming for you, and we will not stop until every link in this chain is broken.”

The seized products are being held as exhibits to support upcoming prosecutions. Authorities indicated further arrests are likely as the probe widens.
