The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has suffered a minor setback
after its candidate for the Kisa East ward seat, Abraham Isaiah Ayaya, declined
the party’s nomination and instead opted to align himself with the Democratic Action Party
of Kenya (DAP-K) ahead of the November 27 by-elections.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Ayaya explained that ODM
issued him with the nomination certificate on September 1, 2025, before he had made
a logical conclusion over the matter.
Ayaya stated that by that time, his name had already been
forwarded to DAP-K party where he's registered as a lifelong member.
"Subsequently, I hereby respectfully decline the
nomination certificate issued to me and dated September 1, 2025, and the name
is hereby returned," he stated in the statement.
Barely 24 hours earlier, ODM had announced Ayaya's candidacy
for the Kisa East ward seat, revoking the nomination of Thomas Eshuya Oyolo in
the process.
The seat fell vacant after the former MCA Stephen Maloba was
stabbed to death at a political event in 2023 organised by Khwisero MP
Christopher Aseka at Munjiti village.
Two years later, calls mount for the Directorate of Criminal
Investigations (DCI) to expedite investigations into the politician's
murder.
