A resident of Milangine village in Nyandarua County has lodged a formal complaint against Democratic Congress Party (DCP) deputy party leader Cleophas Malala, accusing him of making remarks that amount to a death threat against the president’s family.

Stanley Mwangi Wairimu on Tuesday presented himself at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters along Kiambu Road, carrying a flash drive, transcripts, and screenshots which he said contained evidence of Malala’s controversial utterances.

The remarks are alleged to have been made on August 12, 2025, during a rally in Imenti North Constituency, Meru County. In a widely circulated clip, Malala is reported to have told his supporters that if the president was willing to compensate victims of police brutality with Sh10 million, “they too could raise Sh10 million, kill the president’s child, and pay him the same.”

Mwangi, speaking to reporters outside the DCI offices, described the statement as reckless and criminal. He cited several legal provisions, including Section 223 of the Penal Code on threats to kill, Section 96 on incitement to violence, Section 94 on offensive conduct, and sections of the National Cohesion and Integration Act relating to hate speech.

He further urged investigators to secure original footage from broadcasters, subject the clip to forensic examination, and summon witnesses who attended the rally before taking legal action against Malala.

To back his complaint, Mwangi submitted annexures including the video file, a time-stamped transcript, screenshots, and links to Facebook posts where the clip had been shared.

The Nyandarua resident, who said he was “deeply irked” by the remarks, insisted that silence was not an option and vowed to remain at the DCI headquarters until the former Kakamega Senator is held accountable.

Mwangi also appealed to politicians across the divide to exercise restraint in their rhetoric, warning that inflammatory statements risk plunging the country into instability.
