A Nigerian man has been sentenced to eight years in prison
after he was found guilty of trafficking narcotic drugs worth Ksh.890,800 in Nairobi.
Milimani Law Courts Chief
Magistrate Susan Shitubi ruled that the prosecution had proven its case beyond
reasonable doubt against Alabi Tunde Lateef, who was convicted on two counts of
drug trafficking.
The court heard that on September
11, 2017, Lateef was found trafficking by conveying 75.4 grammes of cocaine,
with a street value of Ksh.377,000, near the General Post Office (GPO) in
Nairobi’s Central Business District.
On the same day, he was also
found trafficking by storing 102.7 grammes of cocaine worth Ksh.513,800 in the
Mwiki area of Kasarani.
Four prosecution witnesses, led
by State counsels Wanjiru Naomi and Nyakira Kibera from the Office of the
Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), gave testimony culminating in the
conviction.
Justice Shitubi sentenced Lateef to eight years’ imprisonment
on each count, with the sentences to run concurrently.
