The Secretary of State for Nebraska Robert Evnen said he was impressed by the progress the county has made in Agriculture Subsidy programme called Inua Mkulima and employment of youths under the Murang’a Youth Service.
Speaking when he visited the county accompanied by investors and academics from the US, Mr Evnen said the State has signed a cooperation deal with Kenya on labour mobility.
" We have also explored how the two regions can also use maize to make animal feed in an Industrial scale as both and Murang’a and Nebraska are farming regions," said the Secretary of State.
Mr Kang'ata said the county is open for business and thanked the secretary for the visit.
" Farming is a shared economic activity for both Murang’a and Nebraska. We want to deepen that," said Kang'ata.
During the event, Murang’a Economic And Budget Council Chairman Peter Munga was conferred with honorary citizenship by the State of Nebraska in the United States.
" Governments should learn from each other and increase incentives for the private sector to invest in industries," said Mr Munga.
The honorary citizenship guarantees Dr. Munga access and recognition whenever he visits Nebraska. This opens a unique pathway for him to engage directly with the State’s government, business community, and institutions.
It means he can participate in high-level discussions, establish networks, and pursue investment opportunities with fewer barriers, while representing the interests of Murang’a and Kenya at large.
Nebraska is an agricultural powerhouse, renowned for its large-scale maize, soy, and beef production, as well as its advanced farming technologies.
These sectors directly align with Murang’a’s strengths in agriculture—particularly in tea, coffee, avocado, and dairy farming. With his new status, Dr. Munga can build strategic partnerships that allow for technology transfer, market linkages, and investment flows into Murang’a’s agribusiness sector.
Additionally, Nebraska has a strong footprint in renewable energy, healthcare, and education. Dr. Munga is now well-positioned to seek collaborations in these areas, unlocking opportunities such as healthcare exchanges, training programs, and joint ventures that can uplift Murang’a’s socio-economic development.
The honorary citizenship also enhances Munga’s credibility as a global ambassador for Murang’a’s investment agenda. It signals trust and goodwill from Nebraska, which can attract American investors to explore opportunities in Murang’a.
